          While the appearance and temperament of the classic European German shepherd really begins with choosing a superior Dam and Sire which have elite German bloodlines, we here at K9 Union also believe in the importance nutrition for both the whelping dam and the weaned puppies. From the very beginning, after conception we recognize the need for the dam to have a healthy balanced meal to supplement nutrients lost during pregnancy and after pregnancy while whelping. It is critical that they feed appropriately. Our special formula for feeding the dam helps us maintain the quality of puppies and also in the long run extends the lifespan of the adult.

          Once the puppies are weaned, we slowly introduce the puppies to soft food. We do not believe in store canned food. That food is cited as being a quality food, yet allow for dehydrated chicken poop , empty peanut shells and almond shells that they call vegetable fiber. We prefer to make our own puppy food from chicken, rice or noodles, vegetables , cheese and soup broth to hold the pureed foods. We puree these on a daily basis so our puppies have healthy balanced meals every day. Every recipe has its own custom blend of nutrients which results in a healthier, happier, more even tempered German shepherd puppy who each day sleeps soundly with a fully belly.

          As the puppies grow and are around 8 weeks of age, we no longer puree the food and simply chop up some of the same ingredients keeping their nutritional intake familiar which leads to healthy digestive system and healthier less frequent stool. By this point in time one can actually see the effects of the nutritious meals which are shiny hair, strong bones, a solid heavy puppy (not fat) and a lot of energy. Many times, they just cant get enough!
